OBJECTIVES & PRINCIPLES

  

OBJECTIVES

The objective of the ZANC shall be:

  1. Achieve greater unity and solidarity within Zambian boundaries and the peoples of Zambia worldwide;
  2. Defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Zambia;
  3. Accelerate the political and socio-economic integration of the Zambian nation and all its allies;
  4. Promote and defend Zambian common positions on issues of interest to national security and its citizens;
  5. Encourage international cooperation, taking due account of the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
  6. Promote and enhance peace, security, and stability on the continent;
  7. Promote democratic principles and institutions, popular participation and good governance;
  8. Promote and protect human and peoples' rights in accordance with the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and other relevant human rights instruments;
  9. Establish the necessary conditions which enable the continent to play its rightful role in the global economy through maximum and total control of the natural resources on the African soil and waters and in international negotiations;
  10. Promote sustainable development at the economic, social and cultural levels as well as the integration of Zambian economic and natural resources;
  11. Promote co-operation in all fields of human activity to raise the living standards of Zambian peoples;
  12. Coordinate and harmonize policies between existing and future Regional Economic Communities for the subsequent attainment of the objectives of Zambian development plan;
  13. Advance the development of the Country by promoting research in all fields, particularly in science and technology;   
  14. Work with relevant international partners in the eradication of preventable diseases and the promotion of good health the country;
  15. Be a vital and recognisable part of fair world trade and in the WTO
  16. Defend the nation from exploitation, unfair trade and misrepresentation in the media and justice

  

PRINCIPLES

The ZANC shall function in accordance with the following principles:

a) Sovereign equality and interdependence among all regions in the continent;  

b) Enforce international and national respect of borders existing for the land of Zambia and all its waters  

c) Participation of the Zambian peoples in the activities of national development and representation in governance;  

d) Establishment of a common high level defence policy for the country and the African Continent as a whole;  

e) Peaceful resolution of conflicts among disputing parties in the region and within the boarders of Zambia through such appropriate means;  

f) Prohibition of the use of force or threat to use force to/within Zambia and her neighbours  

g) Non-interference by any foreign country in the internal affairs except upon invitation;  

h) The right of the Central Government to intervene in a region pursuant to a decision of the Assembly in respect of grave circumstances, namely war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity;  

i) Peaceful co-existence of all ethnic groups and religions and their right to live in peace and security;  

j) The right of any region to request intervention from the Government in order to restore peace and security;  

k) Promotion of self-reliance within the framework of the Nation;  

l) Promotion of gender, racial, religion, creed, social and civil equality;  

m) Respect for democratic principles, human rights, the rule of law and good governance;  

n) Promotion of social justice to ensure balanced economic development;  

o) Respect for the sanctity of human life, condemnation and rejection of impunity and political assassination, acts of terrorism and subversive activities including war mongering;  

p) Condemnation and rejection of unconstitutional changes of government;  

q) Eradicate rebellious groups/organisations or movements
