DEVELOPMENT OF ZAMBIA

The development of Zambia can only be achieved if the leaders and especially the people share a firm and common vision and conviction of the duty to eradicate poverty. Individually and collectively, Zambians must participate actively, to bring about sustainable development, in programmes initiated and nurtured in Zambia by Zambians for Zambians.

Zambia's continued marginalisation from the globalisation process can only be stopped if Zambia builds a strong and dependable economic structure. Lobbying and crying for inclusion without works is first and foremost unfair to the hard working taxpayers of other countries and incredibly unreasonable. In reality we as Zambians know that most of our products cannot compete at global level. Since a common understanding is there that multi-national corporations are there in Zambia to harvest the land of revenue, Zambians must therefore be in the core of improving the standards of products and services.

Zambia and the world over agree to the fact that there is a social exclusion of the vast majority of African people. This self-exclusion is for the most part perpetuated by Africans themselves. Contrary to how most of the countries portray them, Africans are of high civility (ancient history tells as that civilization begun in Africa). They also carry unparalleled gifts and talents in music, sport, intellect, etc. thus the exclusion here constitutes a serious threat to global stability.

The world international financial institutions work at the command and mercy of the developed countries. If those countries suffer an economic downturn, the countries especially the African, suffer the most. , now in a devastating debt deadlock, can never grow from the receiving end of the world. This situation, everyone acknowledges, is abnormal. It is fostered by the current trade relationship that underpins it and the continued tolerance of neo-colonialism.

The lack of a plausible provincial economic and development plans leaves Zambia handicapped and unable to stand. This perpetuates the scourge of underdevelopment that afflicts our country. Looking at a broader perspective, Zambia as a whole has ample resources within our reach, including capital, technology and human skills that are required to launch a national war on poverty and underdevelopment. What is needed to mobilise and use these resources properly is a united system of governance. That is, one imaginative government genuinely committed to sustain human development effort and enforce new international relationship based on shared responsibility and mutual interest.

For many decades, Zambia has been an indispensable resource haven that has served the world:

Zambia is rich in complex mineral resources, possessing most of the known mineral types of the world, many of which are found in significant quantities, although the geographic distribution is uneven. Fossil fuels, including deposits of coal, petroleum, and natural gas; Zambia has some reserves of gold, diamonds, copper, bauxite, manganese, nickel, platinum, cobalt, radium, germanium, lithium, titanium, and phosphates. Other important mineral resources include iron ore, chromium, tin, zinc, lead, thorium, zirconium, vanadium, antimony, and beryllium. Also found in exploitable quantities are clays, mica, sulphur, salt, natron, graphite, limestone, and gypsum

The ecological lung provided by the Zambia’s tropical rainforests, and the minimal presence of emissions and effluents that are harmful to the environment - a global public good that benefits all humankind;

The palaeontological and archaeological sites containing evidence of the origins of the earth, life and the human race, and the unspoiled natural habitats containing a wide variety of flora and fauna, unique animal species and the open uninhabited spaces that are a feature of the country which provide the basis for agriculture, tourism and industrial development;

The richness of Zambia's culture and its contribution to the variety of the cultures of the global community. The creativity is so under exploited and underdeveloped.
